Sports Medicine

In 1995, Dr. Alessi became a neurologic consultant to the Norwich Navigators and New York Yankees. In 1997, he was named to the consulting staff for the University of Connecticut Athletic Department. He is currently a neurologic consultant to the Connecticut Defenders (double A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants) and the Connecticut Sun WNBA basketball team. He is frequently asked to evaluate many individual athletes.

Boxing

Dr. Alessi became involved in the sport of boxing in 1997 when he was appointed as ringside physician for the Connecticut State Boxing Commission as well as the athletic commissions of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe. Since his appointments, he has worked to improve safety in the sport of boxing. He can often be found at ringside where he is a resource to referees when decisions regarding the continuation of boxing contests must be made.

Media

Dr. Alessi contributes monthly to "Healthy Living," a general health column appearing in the Norwich Bulletin. He also writes a weekly column entitled "Healthy Sports" that appears in the Norwich Bulletin and is syndicated to Gate House Publishing affiliates. The column is accompanied by a weekly podcast and blog. Dr. Alessi recently published his first book titled, “Healthy Sports: A Doctor’s Lessons for a Winning Lifestyle.” He also hosts “Healthy Rounds with Dr. Anthony Alessi,” a weekly radio talk show on WXLM 104.7 FM.

Education

Dr. Alessi is a neurologist in private practice in Norwich, CT since 1986. Prior to that he completed his neurology residency and fellowship at the University of Michigan. He is currently an associate clinical professor of neurology at the University of Connecticut. In 2001 he received a masters degree in medical management from the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University.
